Made in Africa?

Gone are the days(90's) when my parents used to force my sibs and I to wear these once-upon-a-time horrible traditional natives. To make matters worse, they would  make us use a 'gele' (head tie). Gosh I hated wearing those to functions...most of us did! I think the reason why most of us disliked it was because it wasn't "fashionable" enough. I don't know why, but we just thought it suited our parents more.

FINALS OVERR

Hey guys!

This semester went by so fast; but it had it's ups and downs. I am glad regardless coz I need this break!

So what happens from here? NEWS?

Well I'm moving to another apartment.Yay! Bye bye to those beeches, I hope their new roommate gives them hell..OK, just kidding. Maybe not!

My finals went great. However, I got dropped from my spring classes and work bcuz I haven't completed my payment...what thaa freakkkk? I was told that I had to fill out a Parent Plus Loan (which by the way I have never done). You don't wanna know how much my bill for the SPRING sem turned out to be. Perks for being a nursing student huh?

Anyway...I'm looking forward to 2012.

I thought I'd create another style mix for y'all along with this post so it's not so boring :-)

Hi all!

As you all know, finals is this week for some and next week for others...as for me, I have 1-2exams every week, so that makes my schedule more busy. Been studying my arse off, pulling all-nighters, not sleeping at all (yup), doing all these in spite of having to work every night... *sigh*

Anyway, I was privileged to attend ASA (African Student Association) 2nd annual HIV/AIDS awareness fundraising event. It was a complete success! Great acts, guest speakers and performances.

NIU student shot dead

"DeKalb-A NIU student is fatally shot. It happened just after two this morning at 809 Edgebrook.  An argument at an off-campus party led to the shooting.  The victim is 22 year old Steven Agee of Park Forest.  Police arrived to find him with a gunshot wound to the chest.  Agee was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital where he later died." Steven was a Kappa.

That was what I woke up to at 9:50am this morning when I noticed NIU (Northern Illinois University)  trending on twitter...for the wrong reasons. These shootings are becoming out of hand, and no, I'm not talking about NIU only. 

On Nov. 12, I was at the Sigma house at U of I with two of my friends, and shortly after we left, I heard that a sigma had been shot (I don't know the current condition of that sigma).

My point? 

STUDENTS! We ought to be careful at house-parties as this is were most arguments escalate and lead to something dreadful. I thank God I haven't heard of any such case at my school SIUe, but I'll continue to thank God for my going out, and my coming in. 

Be cautious when you go to these house parties-- watch your surroundings, take note of the people at the party, try not to involve yourself in any argument(s). ASSUME everyone is a stranger, because while some strangers can be really, really boring, some can be dangerous, which in some cases can even be worse (e.g the belligerent guy who gets mad at you for ignoring him).

 Anyone with information regarding the shooting at NIU is asked to call DeKalb Police at (815) 748-8400 or CrimeStoppers at (815) 895-3272

AZONTO be what???

The new dance craze in the Ghanaian community is the "Azonto". It is a very interesting dance, yet I find it odd that I can't get myself to do it! I know most Ghanaians are very familiar with Naija's 'Yahoozee' and 'Alanta'. So why can't we get theirs?? (⌣́_⌣̀)

Admist all the drama and gossip Beyonce is facing with her real or fake pregnancy, her newest music video Love On Top went viral with over 3million views on YouTube in 3days! It's very different from the regular Beyonce/Sasha Fierce that we are all used to, and I love her for it! More power to your elbow Bey!

Rihanna was intense, Kelly was hot, and Beyonce was spectacular. Loved all 3. What do you think?

DYNAMIC EVOLUTION

DE (Dynamic Evolution) is the 1st hip hop dance team on SIUe campus and voted BEST. They had their first performance for the 2011/2012 school year on October 12, at the Zeta's annual Gong Show. They wowed the crowd spectacularly, bringing out their newest members better referred to as the "newbies".

Practice was very strenuous on my part because I had to balance work and group projects while trying to learn the routines. Overall, everything worked out perfectly (but I almost got in trouble for not going to work...and NO, I couldn't call in sick [-_-])

This past weekend was fun but stressful. I hated the journey, but loved every bit of my being in Chicago. However, I gambled on school work--had a BIG anatomy test to study for (I did well on it, thankfully)!

Meet Miss Nigeria USA 2011/2012

Nigerian Independence 2010

ChiChic, as I sometimes call her is a very good friend of mine that I've known for just a year and some months. We met via Facebook(I knew her sister prior) but met June 2010 after I moved to her neighborhood. We did a dance together for a gala night and we've been friends ever since.

I now see why she called(and still calls) herself "Chichi of Nigeria"

Winter of 2010, Chi-chi told me about a pageant she was trying to participate in, and we immediately got to work; from the making of her video to making inquiries. And within a month she made the cut to contest for Miss Nigeria USA, in which she stole the crown and now holds the title! I feel like a proud mother *wipes tears* hehe.

She is an ambassador of RED PUMP PROJECT and plans to create and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in Africa and USA especially among women and youths.
