A day out in my #DIY items

As promised, I have a picture of what the fringe maxi dress looks like.

I went "shopping" today. So mind the purse ("luggage" as my mom calls it).
Does anybody else like to put their items in their handbag?
Well if it aint heavy, it goes in my bag *shrugs*

Since I'm not a fan of wedges, I wore the dress with my sandals. But i'd recommend you wear it a platform wedges.
How did my hair turn out? I might wear it in a fishtail tomorrow.

#DIY: Fringe maxi dress & french braided ponytail

Hi there!

So today's Do IT Yourself is all about the fringe.

Sometime last month, I walked into Rainbow and picked up this maxi dress. Since I'm the type of person that hates trying clothes on, I put the dress against my body, liked and paid for it. I wore the dress when I got home only to realize that it wasn't long enough! Now i'm 5'8 (I know, I don't look it...but believe it or not, I am), you should expect that most of these dresses would be long and flowy.
It's really difficult for people my height and up to find maxi dresses/skirts that goes all the way to the floor. It always stops at an ankle length or an inch higher and I hate it!
So since I already trashed the receipt (I'm fond of doing that), I had no choice but to keep the dress. I thought of ideas and ways to wear it. I stretched it, perhaps it'd expand? I tried putting the bottom in a knot but it looked retarded (good idea for the beach though).
Well the last thought that came to my mind was cutting it up...and here it is! For starters, I'd suggest getting an inexpensive dress.

How to make a fringe maxi dress:

Get the your maxi dress. You'll need lint roller/remover (because it's less sticky) and a pair of scissors.
While wearing the dress, attach pieces of lint remover to your desired fringe length. This is done in order to cut up equal lengths.
Lay the dress flat on a smooth surface and cut above the lint remover as seen in the picture.
Detach pieces of lint remover
Pull each fringe to stretch.

For my hair, I decided to make a fringe (bangs). I wasn't too pleased with the hairstylist's decision on fringe length.
I didn't like the way my ponytail looked because my hair's very thin. So when I got home, I decided to attach a hair piece. You can get braiding hair from your local beauty shop [Mine is from Nigeria]. Although my hair is now a 1B, I used color 2 because that was what I found -,-
And before anybody (like my folks) says "Oh your hair's long, why do you need extensions?" my reason is that I hate using products like hot iron on my hair, and the constant brushing every morning breaks it!

How to make a french braided ponytail:

Get a braiding hair of preferred length. [I don't know how long mine is, but it goes all the way to my butt].
Get something for support while braiding. You can use your big toe.
French braid the hair. You can choose to do a fishtail braid.
Using an elastic band, make a loop on the top of the hair as shown.
Braid your own hair and tuck it in. Wrap the elastic band around your hair to secure the french braid.
Leave it to dangle or put it up in a bun.

Ok ladies, I'll put pics up of how I'll be wearing both items tomorrow.

Rants on Rants

It's a beautiful day!
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall... say what??

S/o to my new followers, and old members as well for their continued support. I appreciate you all.
I'd like go into details on one or two things, and after this post, I'm done explaining myself. Capiche?

OK. Now when I said that I respected the critiquing of only those in the industry, I meant that in a good way.
You see, I can sing right (i think lol), but I wouldn't go about critiquing a budding artist. I have no say in that.
In other news, I'm saying that if you have a personal sense of style, or you don't  know what "style" is, don't judge other people's choices. It felt as though some people were passing judgments. I'm in the health field, someone with an individual style. You won't see me reprimanding others for what they wear. It's their choice, people. As for my weave, it very much varies. This month I might install perfectly, and the next? Horribly. Yikes!

I went ahead to read the responses for other bombshells and they were pretty harsh. Saying things like "She's not good in the facial aspect" aka, she's ugly. I felt bad for the girl. What is that about?

So, people, my point here is we should be mindful of the things we say. Some people might not take their own criticism likely and go ahead to make drastic decisions. We are all here for the betterment of ourselves; not to be downgraded.

OK. Let me end on that note before I start sounding like one of my professors or feeling like an important celebrity, lol.

*****
I don't know what today entails, but it looks like I'll be doing a lot of critical incidences and uploading of forms on my online resume and all that good stuff ;(

My birthday is in 3weeks!!!!!!!!!!
So look out for what hairdo I'd be doing ;p

It's all peace, love and chicken grease.

#OOTD: FashionBombDaily

Let me start off by saying that I am today's Fashion Bombshell. YAY.
I put myself up because I’ve been following Fashion Bomb Daily for a while now, and also to share my style with ladies of mutuality.

Let me say that it’s sad that some of these readers can be so cruel and hateful with their comments. I've seen this with so many entries as well. Is it the hate, or are they just bitter? Hmm. All I want is for their opinionated minds to send in some photos so that we too can critique. Yeah? Maybe if I was a girl with a low self-esteem I’d cry my eyes out at those comments. Jump off a cliff maybe? OK that’s too extreme. Lawwwl.

Anyway I love those that complimented my looks and critiqued in a responsible not-so-harsh manner. If you’re a stylist or someone in the fashion industry, I respect your “opinion”. But if you’re none of that, what do you know about looks wearing people? I'm not sorry that smiling in photos or looking good for you is NOT my forte.

#OOTD: Wedding

Hey hey. I wonder what everyone has been up to?
Well I've been doing so much latelypreparing myself for this coming school year.
***3rd year in Nursing skool. Whoop whoop!***

Last night, well a few hours ago I was at a wedding. My mom's friend or dad's, something like that.
After 25 years as husband and wife, they finally got married by a church. So cute.
We were late of course (on that African time ish), so we went to the reception. I saw so many familiar faces.

Sooo, I didn't get a picture of the couple. It just so happens that whenever I'm comfortably seated, I find it difficult to move around. So I just sat pretty and ate calmly :-)

Photos:

It's only 7pm. I'm so loving this weather

Ken and Barbie's Traditional Nigerian Wedding

I stumbled upon a photo and thought it was cute. Decided to dig deeper into finding the brilliant mind that came up with this. When found, I had no choice but to share with you guys.

It's a photo-shoot/story of a Nigerian traditional wedding brilliantly done by photographer Obi Nwokedi. He got his inspiration from a black barbie shoot on Italian Vogue online and decided to make his own creation with the help of his talented wife. This project took him approximately 5months. I thought it was beautiful and well put together with insane outfits. The models are dynamic...and yes, they're barbies!

For those of you that are unfamiliar with the tradition, a traditional wedding, also called marriage ceremony are done by most Nigerians before they their church wedding. This is done in various ways by many tribes which not only involves the future husband and wife, but also their families, extended families and the community.
((((To learn more, visit: Igbo Traditional Wedding and Yoruba Traditional Wedding))))

With his busy schedule, I got a hold of Obi to ask some questions some of you might have. Here's what he was able to share with me:

First and foremost, who designed the beautiful attires? They were designed by my wife.
What inspired you to come up with this scenario? I got inspiration primarily from vogue Italia's Black Barbie shoot.
How long did this project take? About 5 months ... working on and off.
I know working with barbies, and other tiny details can be difficult. How did you manage? Yes it was pretty difficult, too many tiny details involved. Then again barbie dolls don't stand (which I find ridiculous), so i had to build a stage and string most of them up like puppets, and then get rid of the strings in Photoshop. Further, hardly any of the items were available in the UK. Most were purchased from the United States and from the far east.
Advice to other people trying to recreate this piece? Advice? ... hope you have plenty of time and patience.

Obi is a Nigerian photographer based in the UK. Thanks for your time Obi.
Now feed your eyes people! :-)
