Say Yes

There's no way I'll listen to this song and not blog about it!

Yesterday, Michelle Williams released a video to her new song, Say Yes featuring her sisters, Beyonce and Kelly. This song is phenomenal!

I remember singing this song in Nigeria every Sunday and in my household. It is very refreshing to hear and holds true to it's meaning.

The song is a remix of an original Nigerian/West African gospel.
"When Jesus say(s) yes, nobody can say no."

Watch Destiny's Child deliver:

All it's telling you to do really, is to trust and believe. Have faith in whatever deity you worship/believe in, and if non...believe in yourself!

The weekend is almost here guys!!

Lupita Nyong'o Wins

Last night was the Oscars, and of course, I was already preoccupied with studying.
But I heard Lupita won an award for Best Supporting Actress for her feature in 12 Years A Slave.
She's such an inspiration; everyone's proud of her and all she's accomplished in such little time!

Lupita Ngong'o on the red carpet
I'm taking a break just to congratulate this darling.
Oh did I mention her fashion game is siiiiiick!! Yes, she kills it every time!

Let me add that her emotional speech left most people teary-eyed. She also got a standing ovation upon receiving the award. Part of the award speech goes:

"Thank you to the academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's," referring to Patsey (acted by Lupita), the tortured slave in Steve McQueen's movie.
"When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid", she said.

I first became a fan of Lupita's when she played the role of Ayira in MTV Base's first Shuga series shot in Nairobi, Kenya.
Watch the first episode:

I want to keep talking about this Kenyan beau, but time will not permit.
Please Google her if you don't know who she is!! You'll be happy you did :)

Happy Monday, and have an awesome week.

BET Awards- Red Carpet Favs

Happy new week!
Happy new month!
Happy JULY!
Yes, you guessed right...it's my birthday month! (It's not like I have anything spectacular planned). But hey!

Yesterday was BET Awards. I missed the show for the most part; I met up with folks for some BBQ hosted by a good friend of mine Dj Diesel (still salivating). I caught up with Ciara's amazing performance when I got home (thankfully my siblings pre-recorded the show).

Here are my red-carpet loves:

L-R: Nicki Minaj, Regina Hall
L-R: Adrienne Bailon, Meagan Good, Lala Anthony
L-R: Jay & Paula Ellis, Dwayne Wade and Gabby Union
L-R: Janelle Monae, Paula Patton, Kenya Moore
My ultimate favorite has to go to Meagan Good. She looked really good (literally) in that blue dress! It's very fitting, flirty and not too revealing (in regards to boob cleavage) and the slit is just right!

Are you looking forward to the 4th as much as I am?

Miley Cyrus- We Can't Stop (Official Music Video)

Here's the music video to Miley's song "We Can't Stop" which premiered today.

It's so rebellious, crazy, rad, kids having some cool fun at some house party...from the french fry skull, the boy eating some money-filling sandwich, to her twerk sessions. Yes, she's really mastered the "art" of twerking.
She has really evolved and grown into her own (living young, wild and free)...imagine little Hannah Montana of yesterday.

Miley just might have ruined it for some of you teenage house-party goers if your parents see this :-/

CEO Dancers on BGT

Knowing that I'm a huge fan of C.E.O Dancers, I knew I had to blog about their Britain's Got Talent 2013 audition which they slayed by the way.

If you've never heard of them, "CEO" consists of 3 talented dancers (22-year-old Ezinne Asinugo of Nigeria, 23-year-old Soliat Bada of Nigeria, and 25-year-old Nqobile Ntshangase of South Africa) who are based in London. They were featured in D'banj's Oliver Twist music video here and have performed on many stages, some of which consists of a few of D'banj's concerts, and have also worked with the likes ofTiwa Savage, MI, 2face and some others.

CEO Dancers
L-R: Ezinne, Soliat, Nqobile
Their episode aired today in the UK, and was fortunately put on YouTube for me(us) to see!
The judges loved them of course, Simon especially!
See their full audition here

They gave them a full blown African-themed (Afrobeats) routine with Beyonce's Single Ladies as an introduction to the performance...I don't think anyone expected the *booty shake* (they haven't seen it all).

Music:
"Single Ladies" by Beyonce
"Kukere" by Iyanya
"Oliver Twist" by D'banj

I'm not sure that they'll get to the final round, just because of, you know..."the masses" but who knows!

Super Bowl 2013

Last night was a night of excitement for the Ravens as they won Super Bowl 2013...and Queen/King Bey of course!

  • Beyonce performed during half time
  • Jennifer Hudson performed with Sandy Hook Elementary school choir
  • Alicia Keys sang the National Anthem

I've been unable to get a hold of videos with links showing Alicia Keys and J.Hudson's performances due to NFL copyright, but hopefully it'll become available online for those of you that missed it.

Everyone was pleased with Beyonce's performance, even though most of us wished it was longer than it was.
Destiny's Child also came to perform, it was an exciting moment!

Impressed tweets from  some celebs

The Star-Spangled Banner

Last night was Obama's Inauguration, and Beyonce got to sing the national anthem. I didn't get to watch it because I was stuck studying 12 sumptuous chapters.

Anyway, sources are claiming that Beyonce lip-synced and they have proof here
But seriously, what if she lip-synced? Is that really what matters??

Whether she lip-synced or not, I loved every bit of it! I PERSONALLY don't think anyone (LIVING) could have done a better job-- fitting into the occasion.

Here's the video:

I watched the video about 3 times and after looking closely, I spotted her lip at 2:19
Her pre-recorded track stopped right before her voice did in "brave" No? Yes?

Well, hopefully I get to watch the rerun (if there'll be any), or I'll probably just look for it online.

By the way, this is her singing the Nigerian national anthem back in 2006 :-) Oh that voice!

Hurricane Sandy 2012-- The Aftermath

My deepest thoughts and prayers goes to those that were affected by Hurricane Sandy!
The super storm which started on the 29th in the East Coast, claimed the lives of at least 64 lives in the U.S., flooded streets, destroyed homes, personal properties and many more. **the death toll is still rising**
The storm caused schools, financial markets, mass transits among others to shut down, canceled flights, and left millions of people without power.
