Houston Galleria

This was what I wore on my visit to Houston Galleria. It was warm (for me because I'm from the Midwest), but a lil windy. I opted for a jacket and a dress.

Cool story: During my mini photo session outside of Forever 21 in the galleria, I noticed a couple of young girls taking photographs of me from the second floor of F21 and they seemed excited lol. Then I looked to my right and there sat a couple in an outside lounge, snapping away. I must have looked that different? Even the nail lady asked my sister and I where we were from upon our arrival. She said we looked like tourists; that we didn't look like we were from Houston.

Senior Poster Presentation

For many of us, the poster presentation is usually done during senior/final year.

For me, there were two parts to the project: a literature review which is a 12 page research paper on a topic of your choice (has to relate to your nursing experience) and then the poster presentation in which you either interview & obverse, or teach whatever your project is about).

It was rough doing the paper; I'm not really a fan of research papers especially one that long! But you have to start working on it ASAP and not leave it till the last minute, which is what I did. I wrote the paper in two days.

For the presentation, I dressed business-casual. You are supposed to look "professional" but you don't have to dress in a business attire--suit and tie.

The whole presentation took about 1.5 hours. We each had two interviewers come up to ask questions concerning our project and graded our work according to the rubric.

**I got 53 points out of 55 (2 pts were taken out probably for poster attraction. lol)

If you have any question like putting a poster together or working on your paper, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Trip to Htown

First day of spring break. How's that going??
Over the weekend, some members of my family and I took a road trip to Texas for a cousin's traditional marriage. It was a beautiful experience in that it was my first attendance and I also got to meet a lot of family members from my dad's end. Not to forget that I ate a lot. A LOT!

The trip took approx. 13hrs...and after driving for 7, we spent the night in Arkansas (Texarkana). The beauty in road trips is that you get to pass by different parts of the country.

We spent only two days in Houston, so there wasn't enough time to tour the city, but I got to visit the Galleria--a very, very big mall in which I got lost in!

I hope you all have a safe spring break!

Lupita Nyong'o Wins

Last night was the Oscars, and of course, I was already preoccupied with studying.
But I heard Lupita won an award for Best Supporting Actress for her feature in 12 Years A Slave.
She's such an inspiration; everyone's proud of her and all she's accomplished in such little time!

Lupita Ngong'o on the red carpet
I'm taking a break just to congratulate this darling.
Oh did I mention her fashion game is siiiiiick!! Yes, she kills it every time!

Let me add that her emotional speech left most people teary-eyed. She also got a standing ovation upon receiving the award. Part of the award speech goes:

"Thank you to the academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's," referring to Patsey (acted by Lupita), the tortured slave in Steve McQueen's movie.
"When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid", she said.

I first became a fan of Lupita's when she played the role of Ayira in MTV Base's first Shuga series shot in Nairobi, Kenya.
Watch the first episode:

I want to keep talking about this Kenyan beau, but time will not permit.
Please Google her if you don't know who she is!! You'll be happy you did :)

Happy Monday, and have an awesome week.

Happy New Month!

It's the first day of March and spring break is coming up. I can't wait to get this much needed break!!!
I've been missing out on a lot: blogs, TV, movies, music, outing, etc :( School work has been moving too fast!
But anyway, I'll be sure to share some photos of my break in two weeks.

The day it was strangely warm :)

With a friend at an African event

Got featured on one of my favorite Nigerian blogs, Bella Naija

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

What's happening?

Let me start by saying: I'M ALMOST THROUGH!
Through with nursing school, that is.

I'm in my final stages of being a nursing undergrad. And every moment since Monday (the beginning of Spring semester) has been exciting but a bit challenging because I'm currently enrolled in Critical Care class and our first quiz was yesterday and the first exam is next week! This course is going to run for 8 weeks, so it's very fast paced! But it only means graduation will be coming around soon. Right? Right.

Clinical officially starts next week...it's going to be a whole new experience for me, so I'm anxious. I'll be on a high risk telemetry unit with lots of cardiac and renal patients; it'll be lots of labs, meds, skills, and overall care, but I'll be proficient with time.

Anyway, let me not bore you any further.
I'll most likely not blog till spring break because I have a lot going on with class work, hospital assignments and work!

I've also created this "Career" segment for my nursing students who want to know all that nursing school entails. I'll make posts when necessary. It'll be a beautiful experience! And to those of you waiting to get your acceptance letter(s), I wish you all the best! Throw a party, OK? You deserve it :)

See you on my next post.

Happy New Year!!!

2013 was a great year for me in that I accomplished set goals, learned a lot, and delved more in finding my calling, and I am so excited for 2014 for so many reasons, some of which I will disclose as they manifest.

Here are a few things I have to say though:

  • Let your hearts be filled with love. Love one another; cherish every moment. Don't wish evil for anyone, even your worst enemy.

  • Set realistic goals and be driven! If you fail, stand up tall and work even harder! Don't let anyone's success be the reason for your downfall- everyone succeeds at their own pace, so don't compare your life to theirs. Always appreciate the things you have and don't splurge unnecessarily because you must fit in.

  • Letting go of an old friend does not necessarily mean you're holding grudges. If you feel that friend isn't making life any better, or is adding to your misery, please let them go. You don't need extra distractions (from them). Choose your friends wisely; the ones who have your best interest at heart. Don't be that person who acknowledges their "friend" so much, but yet gets bad-mouthed. Find an escape route, please.

  • Pray. Prayer they say is the key. Pray to whatever you believe in...even if you don't pray, meditate. Do what makes you relax--if it's yoga, working out, acupuncture, etc, do it! You will find peace within yourself.

  • Whatever anyone think of you is none of your business. People will always talk and have opinions. They will fish out your flaws and gossip endlessly about you. It is your duty to block all negativity, and this is where selective hearing comes in. You are your own person, and only you know what you've been through. If you're the type that let opinions get you to, please let that go with 2013. You've got greatness to achieve.

Having said all that, I pray that this new year will be better than the previous- more blessings, joy, love, peace, fulfillment, progressions and a lot more!
May all our heart desires come to pass. Amen.

Have a blessed 2014.
