What To Wear: Class Presentation

It's that time of the semester where we have to present class projects, thesis, senior assignments, and so on!
Choosing the appropriateness for your dressing choice all depends on the program you're in (e.g. Law students may be required to dress differently from a nursing or an engineering student), and the leniency of your professor.

I have created a couple of outfit inspirations that may guide you to choosing the right fit. I've also written a presentation etiquette that you should abide by, especially if your presentation is to the core.

1.
Don't be afraid to wear color.
This is something I would wear. I always stay away from your typical black on black suits.

2.
Who says you can't wear peplum on peplum?
Again, be creative with your bottom wear; unless you are told to wear a suit.
Do not overdo your accessories-it can be distracting.

If you must wear a suit, make sure it's fitting. What To Wear: Class Presentation

Presentation Etiquette:
- Study before hand; do not read directly from the screen. You want to engage your audience and show that you know what you're talking about. You may use a note card to guide you.
- Scanty slides are the best. Use pictures, diagrams, charts, and key points. There isn't any point putting every detail on your PowerPoint slides. Who wants to read all of that? Not me.
-Don't chew gum! I can't tell you the number of times students are caught chewing gum and ruin chances of a better grade for their peers. It is unprofessional!
-Restrain from "umm" and "uhh" as much as possible. Don't smack your lips either! Annoying much?
-Ladies, ladies. Refrain from wearing tight clothing. You don't want to be self conscious and loose your train of thought when all eyes are tracing parts of your body. Also, pull your hair back and out of your face.
-Be light on the make-up! Unless you're in some beauty school or something of that nature.
-Be comfortable. Wearing heels is definitely not compulsory. Flats go with any outfit choice.

I'm done with finals and I eagerly await graduation day :)
Good luck with exams and all. Rock your last week of the semester!

"A" For Effort

The semester is over!!

Grades just came in and I am ecstatic!!! I couldn't be happier.
OK, this would be the second and last time that I would talk about a course grade...but I just wanted to fill you in on the 2nd 8 weeks for community health as stated here.

Fortunately, Community health wasn't as challenging as Psych, but it was demanding. From clinical projects (visitations, filming, scripting, etc) to classroom duties (exams, projects, presentation...), it almost became overwhelming! However, I continued to dedicate my time to all of that, hence my absence on the blog.

My plans for the break: apply for career jobs, call up hospitals for my final senior project and begin studying for my Exit HESI. Phew!
I hope to accomplish them all.

Good Riddance to Good Omens

If someone had warned me about getting into nursing school...well I still would have applied.

For those of you that have friends as nursing students, or are familiar with the variations of the almost impossible, but doable grading scale, you'd know that getting 84% on a test is not much to brag about...well for me at least. Below is what my school's grading scale looks like:

93-100% A
86-92% B
76-85% C
<75% Fail (You have to retake the course).

The essence of this post you may ask?

Well, I received my final grade today for psych/mental health and boyyyy am I disappointed, again!
Again in the sense that this will the the THIRD time in my NS(nursing school) life that I'd be so close to an A. Other times have been med-surg-92.15% and Obstetrics(OB)-92.43%

Now, getting a 92% has nothing to do with me slacking, and as a matter of fact, I improved after the first test. Even after celebrating Nigerian independence the week of my third exam, to my utmost surprise, I excelled beyond my expectations!

I told my mom and friends that there's some kind of spell that needs to be broken. Seriously, jokes aside. I mean, I'd rather have 86-90% and be satisfied with the B, than be so close to an A!
I'm starting community/public health this week and I asked myself some questions...
1. Should I continue to strive in the hopes of getting an A? or,
2. Relax and end up having a satisfied B, or an A?
Only time will tell.

Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of A's, and they weren't achieved by chance.
I don't want to have yet another sets of sleepless nights, catching up last minute for projects/tests and at the end be rewarded with a 92.44% And yes, I'm a big procrastinator despite my calendar of agendas. smh*

I know they all say GPA and grades does not determine your level of *smartness* and so, jobs/hospitals do not hire you based on that. But it'll be nice to have an awesome looking transcript, don't ya think? These BEES(B's)have got to go. I've been stung enough.

Soon I'll look back on this post and smile.

Thanks for reading :)

Summer Break!

Today is officially the first day of my summer 2012 break! I am so excited school's out! This semester has been a hectic one-- with 17 credit hours (6classes and 6 finals)! pheww. I'm glad it's all over.

I can't wait to be back in Chicago however to spend time with family and friends.
I would resume blogging when I'm all settled and well rested.

That's all folks. Stay warm!

Rainy Day #OOTD

Nothing special, just a casual look to school on a not-so-warm day
