This is my first vlog/video of the year and while it was put out later than anticipated, I would like to point out that a lot of activities were not filmed because I wanted to have fun and explore the city I had been away from for 11 years.
So I decided to visit Lagos because why not? I'd put off this trip for years and after I got the green light from work (early November), I planned my two-weeks vaca. I wasn't very courageous with the thought of traveling by myself. And since I didn't want my movement to be restricted, I chose not to stay with extended family as families tend to worry a lot- as they should.
Let me tell you that it was somewhat nerve-wrecking knowing that I would be in a hotel by myself, as I'd hoped and prayed no one observed and set me up or something (I've seen movies and read stories, OK? Lol). I lodged at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Victoria Island. Security was on point.
I did a lot of meet-ups with friends including those I hadn't seen in years; folks from America, and those I met within a short period. Getting from point A to B via Uber was very convenient. I spent most of my time on the island because everything was within close proximity. I got to party like a Lagosian (sort of), but I could only hang briefly because illness set in.
When I wasn't dining at the hotel, I visited Utopia, Kilimanjaro, and The Place. I also ate once at White House restaurant in Yaba.
As far as clubbing went, I partied at Club 57, DNA, Quilox, Escape, and SIP.
If you're new to this, Current Faves are list of songs that I like and compile to share with Nigerian/African music lovers alike. This is done monthly as songs are released, or as soon as I get wind of them.
Some of the songs on this list are shaku shaku-inspired. "Shaku shaku" is a new dance craze in Nigeria!
Mr Real- Legbegbe ft. Obadice & Idowest
Olamide- Science Student
Idowest- Shepeteri ft. Slimcase
Tiwa Savage, Reminisce, Dj Enimoney & Slimcase- Diet
As most of you know, a lot of (Nigerian) songs were released this month, perhaps in anticipation for the festive season. Unlike the usual, a lot of them were actually very pleasant to listen to.
They are as follows:
Davido- Fia
Mayorkun- Che Che
Falz- Child of the World (off his new album "27")
Simi- Joromi [this is old, but I just caught wind of it]
Rudeboy (1/2 of P-Square)- Nkenji Keke
Davido- Like Dat
The following faves are off Olamide's new album "Lagos Nawa". The vibe on this album is very different compared to my other faves: Baddest Guy Ever Liveth and Eyan Mayweather
Olamide- Bend it Over ft. Reminisce & Timaya
Olamide- Saysaymalay
Olamide- Everyday is not Christmas
Olamide- On a Must Buzz
Olamide- Shanko Baby
Olamide- Eminimomi
I am still warming up to these:
Wizkid x Mut4y- Manya
Rudeboy- Fire Fire
Dice Alies- Otedola
Tekno- Mama ft. Wizkid
Did your favorites make my list?
If it's your first time here, welcome! I started this series over the summer per the request of some of my Snapchat followers who asked me to share my music playlist; and so I have decided to do so monthly.
Let me start by saying I love all the songs on Tiwa Savage's EP- Sugarcane, but only 3 made the list (besides "All Over" which was released back in April).
This trip took place in July. I went with my friend, Ella.
It was our first time on the island and we enjoyed every bit of it, especially towards the end. We were there for 4nights.
We lodged at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall (very exquisite).
We visited Mystic Mountain where we went on activities such as the sky explorer, bobsled, zip-lines; we also went to Dunn's Riverfall on the excursion.
We got to witness the annual sumfest which was huge!
Towards the end, we visited the locals; ate proper jerk chicken and went to Pier 1 for a karaoke night.
